Swan River School Realizes Benefits of Digital Learning with Ruckus Networks

Ruckus Cloud Wi-Fi delivers high-quality coverage with greater control and minimal management
November 5, 2018 America/Los_Angeles

Sunnyvale, Calif.— November 5, 2018 Ruckus Networks, an ARRIS company, today announced that Swan River School, in Bigfork, Mont., has deployed Ruckus Cloud Wi-Fi with indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi access points (APs). The solution will enable a new classroom digital learning initiative and provide reliable, campus-wide network access for students, teachers and administrative staff.

“Going into this project, we had minimal knowledge of what was required, since we’re educators and not IT experts,” stated Shelley Emslie, Fifth Grade Teacher, Swan River School and a Google for Education Certified Trainer. “We did know that we needed a reliable and affordable wireless solution to make our digital initiative a reality, and ENA highly recommended Ruckus Networks. Sometimes when a rural school is told ‘this is the best you can do,’ it means you’re settling because you can’t afford better, but we really got the best with Ruckus. You can walk from one end of the building to the other with your Chromebook, smartphone or tablet and never lose the signal. Everyone from the staff to the students is excited about the changes.”

Swan River School implemented Ruckus’s Cloud Wi-Fi to manage their wireless local area network (WLAN), which meant there was no need for an on-premise controller. Using the Ruckus Cloud Wi-Fi mobile app, they can manage the school’s entire Wi-Fi network from a smartphone; even remotely. In addition to troubleshooting, the school can also see how the Wi-Fi is being used including the number of students and staff on the network at any given time.

As part of the upgrade process, ENA installed 13 indoor and two outdoor access points (APs). The installation provides high-quality coverage for several classrooms, as well as the administrative offices, gym, library, and cafeteria.

“Trying to deploy new digital learning tools can be challenging by itself but imagine juggling teaching with managing your school’s wireless infrastructure,” said Bart Giordano, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Ruckus Networks. “With cloud-managed Ruckus APs, even a rural school—or school district—strapped for IT resources can overcome these challenges and bring the reality of digital learning to each and every student.”

Because there is a solid technical foundation in place, the school can now move forward with its digital initiatives, with more than enough capacity on the Ruckus WLAN to reach their goal of one device for each student.
