The BDM2/M Bidirectional Module 6+12 with 204 MHz provides increased channel density and faster throughput speeds per service group in C100G and C40G CCAP architectures.
Features and Benefits
HFC Cable Access Networks are rapidly evolving. While game changing, next-generation technologies like DOCSIS 4.0 and Node PON can significantly improve network speed and capacity, not all networks need to evolve at the same pace. Indeed, many unique factors—such as geographic location, homes passed, and network traffic—may mitigate the urgency or even the need to transition directly from sub-split operation to a next-generation network. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enhance and optimize the performance of your current network assets. By deploying CommScope’s D3.1Enhanced (D3.1E) technology, you can improve the performance of a sub-split network without costly, invasive upgrades or overbuilds. D3.1E technology supports up to five bonded 192 MHz OFDM channel blocks and up to two 96 MHz OFDMA channel blocks in 85/102 MHz mid-split or 204/258 MHz high-split networks. This expanded downstream capacity is significantly greater than the two 192 MHz OFDM channel blocks supported in standard DOCSIS 3.1 networks.
Deployable in both high-density C100G or mid-density C40G CCAP chassis, the BDM2 Bi-Directional Module is an important component in D3.1E operation. After upgrading your C100G or C40G with Software Release 8.12, your legacy I-CCAP core can support up to four bonded OFDM channel blocks per BDM2, doubling the OFDM capacity available with standard DOCSIS 3.1 operation. This extended OFDM capacity lets you monetize your existing headend equipment by rolling out new, gigabit service offerings while, at the same time, extending the life and viability of your current headend architecture for years to come.
But support for D3.1E technology is not the only advantage of a BDM2 deployment. The modules also support expanded CCAP channel density and full spectrum operation in DOCSIS 3.0, EuroDOCSIS 3.0, and standard DOCSIS 3.1 networks. You can configure the BDM2 to support six downstream ports and 12 upstream ports; C100Gs configured with 1:2 (DS:US) configuration with 11:1 line card redundan
cy support 66 Service Groups in a 13 RU C100G chassis to meet your highest density requirements.
Whether you operate a standard DOCSIS network or a network with D3.1E technology, the BDM2 enables higher throughput speeds and increased channel density. Leveraging these capabilities, you can introduce new and enhanced services to your subscribers, providing you with a competitive edge and extending the life of your existing network assets for the foreseeable future.
